This was one of those images that nags at one's brain, and doesn't let one rest until it has been captured in pixels. The image was clear, but I wasn't actually sure what my inspiration was until I had already started the image. Then, I went out to see a movie last weekend, and saw posters in the theatre for the upcoming 'Lord of the Rings' film - well, I guess that solves that mystery!

I'm also currently re-reading The Fellowship of the Ring, just to have it fresh in my memory when I see the film; and just last night, I came across the passage in the penultimate chapter, describing the sight of the huge statues of Isildur and Anarion, ancient Kings of Men - the Argonath, the Pillars of the Kings, straddling the great Anduin River..

Still, I like this image, and decided to post it as is, even though its derivation is barely disguised. Hmmm, let's call it a 'homage'... (yeah, that's the ticket... a homage...)

Actually, there are two versions. One (this one) features the delightfully whimsical 'steam-punk' blimp by Helmut Schaub, (which has been used by several people on the Bryce list lately), while the other features the return of that galleon I had built years ago, for my first batch of posted images. Both versions include a hawk from a new bundle of raptors available from DAZ.
