The concept of this image, a powerful man reposing in 'easy majesty' upon this crystalline/rocky throne, with stark overhead lighting, was one I had been working with for a while, in fact since Poser 3. The standard Poser male figure just didn't convey the right sense of power, though. Then, along came Zygote's 'nude muscleman' figure, which suited the image almost perfectly - with one small problem...
For all his masculine physique, the poor muscleman has no genitals! It would be difficult conveying a sense of masculine power without 'bits', so I had originally built some in Organica, another modelling program. The image looked OK, but it was then hard to draw the line between the sense of 'power', without venturing too far into erotica, or (in some folks' eyes) outright pornography. (After all, there's nothing like the sight of an unfettered penis to instantly consign one to eternal damnation, is there?)
Unfortunately, my skills at creating clothing (to cover said genitals) were minimal, so... What to do???
Then, along came Robert Whisenant's 'Beastmaster' figure, a variant on the original 'muscleman' character, complete with loincloth and booties! Just what the doctor ordered! I simply added an ear-ring or two, and voila - problem solved!
The lighting and the image now reminded me of the work of classic fantasy artist Frank Frazetta, so in homage to him, I added a couple of Poser beasties lurking half in the shadows; entirely in keeping with the 'Beastmaster' motif...
