- Maternal Instincts -

Comments:

A take on that age-old question: "What happens when an Irresistible Force meets an Immovable Object?"

In this case, the mother Tyrannosaurus rushes to protect her growing chicks when a browsing Triceratops wanders too close. Normally, even a fully grown tyannosaur would back away from the business end of a ceratopsian, but in this case, the maternal instincts overcomes prudence. For its part, the ceratopsian has no particular interest in the tyrannosaur chicks; its quest for food simply brought it within the 'threat range' for the mother.

This image was undoubtedly influenced by my recent viewing of the DVD of Jurassic Park: the Lost World, blended with memories of the Walking with Dinosaurs scenario of a mother T. rex teaching her offspring to hunt.
