- City Block 1 -
Comments:
I had been intending to use Bryce to create some modern urban office towers for some time -
one of the projects I have been doing on and off with my digital camera involved taking photos
of representative architecture around downtown Toronto. An offshoot of that ongoing project
was the 'Liners over Toronto' series I finally posted last month.
Then two things happened...
- The first was that I came across the work of Kevin Cappis, whose
Surreal Places site includes some wonderful cityscapes he's developed using Bryce. His
work provided me with some real inspiration...
- The other was that the passing of my mother, and some other unfortunate 'mental health issues'
that struck someone close to me, occurred pretty much simultaneously, and there was nowhere I
could go for the calm and relaxation I so desperately needed. So I turned to Bryce, and started
creating the buildings presented here... It doesn't take a 'Sigmund Shrink' to figure out that
finding order and regularity in this architecture was a substitute for the structure that I
couldn't find in the 'real world' at the time...
Be that as it may, the result was that I did substantial work on this project I had been meaning
to start for some time anyway!
As a complement to the buildings, I created a few low-resolution cars to show some life
in my cities, and also some low-res Poser people walking the streets (which are all but invisible
at this image size; barely visible at wallpaper size, for that matter; but, strangely, I
feel better knowing they are there)!
Not that I would make a strong argument that these images are 'art', by any stretch of the
imagination... Creating them, however, was a nice catharsis for me! And, now I have a library of buildings I can call upon for
future images. Stay tuned!
