- Defender's Nightmare -

Comments:

"Halfway through a seemingly uneventful duty shift, the unimaginable happened; the patrolling scouts could only watch their rear sensors in horror as their worst nightmares came true... On the surface of their colony world, one nuclear blossom after another illuminated the dark hemisphere, wiping out all the major centres... Out here on the frontier, they didn't even know they had enemies!"

This scout vessel was constructed in RayDream, starting out with the cockpit module only - an experiment in Boolean cut-outs. I then had to create an appropriate 'aft' section, to which I tried to apply more detailing than I had in previous ships. While both the model detailing and the texture mapping are more intricate than I had used previously (although not obvious in this specific image), they are still far less than I want to attain. Nonetheless, I like this ship; its 'swoopy' shape and overall balance appeal to my aesthetic sense!

I may also build other 'aft' hull sections for the same cockpit module... watch this space (no pun intended!)

Image Updated 2000.07! I replaced the backdrop with a Bryce-created nebula and planet, while retaining the overall feel and structure of the original. Universe was still used to add the local sun, additional stars, and the nuclear blossoms on the surface of the planet. The final image was rendered in RayDream.
