- Federation's Edge -

Comments:

For all my love of things 'SF-ish', you will notice I've never posted a Star Trek image... Star Wars, yes, Babylon 5, yes, but never Star Trek - so far... Well, this image is for all the Trekkies (Trekkers, whatever!), in the interests of 'equal time'...

Actually, the genesis of this image was my application of the tutorial on creating Space Nebulae, recently posted on the Bryce Product page at That-Company-Which-Is-Not-To-Be-Named (you know, the ones who just sold off their graphics apps...) I think the results are quite breathtaking! Hours of play yet to come, I'm sure!

Apart from a couple of hours getting the nebula 'just so', the majority of time invested in this image was spent fine-tuning the lights on the Enterprise model, which I downloaded from The Star Trek Meshes Collection. The ship was originally created by Eric Peterson (in 3DStudio MAX, I believe), and converted to Lightwave format by Andrew Marrs. Lightwave objects can fortunately be imported into Bryce. But the imported ship was dark - hence the work on adding lights as appropriate to the darkness of space... The running lights add a lot to the ambience of the image, and give depth to what would otherwise simply be a silhouette.
