- The New Moon -

Comments:

The U.S.S. Excelsior NX-2000, under the command of Captain Hikaru Sulu, pays a visit to Earth's moon.

In Star Trek: First Contact, Riker comments to Zefrem Cochrane that the moon in the 24th century looks very different - it has 50 million inhabitants, and from Earth, you can see the lights of "Tycho City, New Berlin - even Lake Armstrong..."

So, with the assumption that terraforming began sometime between the end of the 21st century and the 24th, it's safe to show an Excelsior-class vessel - after all, the basic Excelsior spaceframe was in use for over 100 years, from the time of The Search for Spock (AD2285) at least until the period of the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine TV shows (2380s/90s)... The terraforming process must have been fairly well along by that time.

One of the interesting features of Flaming Pear's LunarCell software, is how you can take the 'real' moon map, and gradually terraform it by raising the sea level, increasing the atmosphere, changing the landform colours etc. Unfortunately, the moon is the only 'real' world you can do this to - it would be nice to have a ‘real’ Mars and even Earth to play around with!
