- Obi-Bob Kenobi, Redneck Jedi -

Comments:

Gosh - so many credits with this image! The most immediate inspiration for the subject matter was a series of jokes going around the internet right after the release of Star Wars Episode 1: the Phantom Menace - "How do you know you're dealing with a Redneck Jedi?"

Two of the clues...

The X-wing itself was downloaded from the Star Wars Modelling Alliance, then disassembled and primer-coated for that oh-so-sought-after redneck charm! I also created a rusted texture for the nose-shield to enhance that aura of disuse...

Obi-Bob is a Poser 4 guy, and I was pleased that his face turned out distinctly non-standard just by playing with the standard dials.

The miscellaneous 'stuff' around the yard was an experiment in randomness and disorder, as described in Bill Fleming's 3D Photorealism Toolkit book (Wiley, 1998)... The wood textures on the veranda are from a series of texture maps from Marlin Studios - this was the first image in which I used them, trying to add some 'realism' to the image... The weeds were generated in Plant Studio, a shareware app from Kurtz-Fernhout software, which creates 3D models of plants which can be used in other 3D scenes...

Finally, I enhanced Bryce's lacklustre grass texture in post-production by adding some grass blades in the foreground with the Image-hose in Painter 6.

Maybe not my most complex image - but certainly the one in which I drew upon the most varied resources!
